EBS (President: Yong-seob Shin) will conduct its multichannel broadcasting (MMS) experiment from January 27 to February 9. The experimental format will be available to viewers in 9 of the 25 districts of Seoul, including Gangnam and Songpa, as well as certain cities of Gyeonggi-do such as Incheon and Anyang. The experimental programs will only be available to households that receive ground wave TV signals. Viewers must activate the “experimental broadcasting channel” (Channel 5) on their televisions using the “Auto Channel Setting” function. Channel 5-1 will air the ground-wave programs of EBS, while Channel 5-2 will air learning and English teaching contents that cater to elementary and middle-school students. The Korea Broadcasting Commission will decide on the usage of channel compression technology based on the outcome of this experiment before it goes on a nationwide expansion this year.
